Denisse Ariana Pérez: Agua
Doyle Wham is excited to present Agua: a solo exhibition of Denisse Ariana Pérez. The exhibition takes place at a private luxury waterfront location in Mykonos, Greece.
This marks the first exhibition of the celebrated artist and filmmaker in Greece, as well as the first international pop-up hosted by London-based contemporary art gallery Doyle Wham. The exhibition highlights 19 artworks from Pérez’s monumental project and photobook, Agua.
Pérez feels an affinity with water that has inspired her to capture its essence, power and beauty across the world. In the artist's own words: "I keep coming back to water scenes. I keep coming back to lakes, rivers and oceans. I like to explore the interaction of people with water. Water can disarm even the most armed of facades. Becoming one with water is not about rushing but rather about flowing. And flowing is the closest thing to being.
This large ongoing body of work has taken me through different corners of the world on an aquatic pilgrimage, from the cold waters of Scandinavia to the pink rivers of Senegal. In these versatile waters, I have captured men, women, siblings, people living with albinism, and non-binary beings. Through my images, I aim to showcase people through a more sensible and sensitive lens, one that shows nuance, vulnerability, and movement."
Also on show is the short film Tide In Tide Out. Filmed in Greece, it is an ode to the Mediterranean communities that live in unison with the surrounding sea. "The film is a reflection on how similar we are to water and how it breathes just like we do - if we only decide to listen to it” says Pérez.
The exhibition takes over the interior and exterior locations of the venue, a 1970s villa that will be opened to the public for the first time.
